I have been using gentoo for a few years now, installed it probably 20 times, but I have never had this problem, so I think it has something to do with X.org. The mouse is horribly jumpy in x. It feels kinda like a very heavily loaded system, but cpu is at 0 and only about half of my physical ram is being used and no swap space. Has anyone else experienced this or know what the problem is?

Thanks,
Derek

System specs:
Athlon 3200+ XP
Abit NF7 (nforce2 chipset)
512mb ddr
ATI Radeon 9000

Of course the usual question. Has anything changed recently? What type of mouse?

Look for a possible IRQ conflict.

cat /proc/interrupts

This is a brand new install, so nothing has changed, its just been like that from the begining. The only thing I am doing different this time is using X.org instead of xfree. That's why I assume is an X.org problem. I'm at work right now so I will check for conflicts when i get home (forgot to start sshd before I left, doh!)

i had this problem lately when i used my usb mouse with a usb/ps2 adapter in the ps2-port.

i searched the forum and followed the advice to turn of usb in the BIOS.
Other advices included disabling usb in the kernel.

It worked for me.

I should add that the lag was very big, it felt like it would update the mouse movement only 2 times a second.
First i thougt the battery would die but this is a little different because the lag increases after starting to move the mouse and this lag was constant.
