I have had pretty good luck with netgear wg511 (prism54g)

unfortunately it seems that no card does everything..

for example, I could get the prism54g to work with gentoo wep but not wpa, and also kismet, but not airsnort

I have an orinioco (only b, not g) and it was the easiest to set up (only kernel driver whereas prism54g needs firmware), but it won't work with kismet unless you patch the driver to get it into monitor mode..

and the atheros chipset works with wep and wpa, and kismet, but not airsnort..

I'd LOVE to find a chipset that actually does wep, wpa, kismet AND airsnort! ;)

I use a SMC EZ Connect Wireless G CardBus 54 Mbps 802.11g, WPA, SMC2835W that I am pretty pleased with. It works fine in Gentoo. Don't know about WPA, WEP and other encryption methods, don't think they are supported by the driver yet.

Don't get anything broadcom (Dell sells with these crappers). They don't even bother to create liunx drivers. You have to get the windows drivers and put ndiswrapper or something like that around it.

Don't get anything with acx111 either unless you want to run a wide-open netowrk with no security.
