Hi.
I've got a serious problem right now.
I having problems building gtk+ and all sort of stuf right now, followed the gentoo install doc for amd64 all thrue and everything worked good just to right after i started a emerge -uD world when i finished the installation.
The first error i got was that xorg didnt want to build it self but i solved that by change my gcc profile. But now when i try to emerge gtk+ and every other program i try it starts to get some errors (that i dont get a chance to see what they really are) and just in a sudden the emerge terminates all active programs for me?!
Does anyone know what could be the problem? It's really becoming a pain in the a** that i cant get any programs to emerge.
I think its a gcc problem but im not sure cuz im not an expert.
Would be really glad if anyone wanted to investigate in my problem further so i can get my system up and running soon.
I'll try to get the error code as soon as possible for you to see.
Thanks in advance! |

i think i found the problem, its my ram and swap that is the problem.
i increased the swap so fluxbox could emerge but i still got the same problem with gtk+ and similiar programs that probably uses more memory to build itself.
i have 256mb in ram and a 512mb swapdisk, shouldnt that be enough? |

I would have thought that would be enough.
Usually if you run out of RAM there will be some sort of failure message logged. Try typing dmesg when you get the problem and looking through the last few lines or paste them here if you are not sure. _________________ AMD 64 3500+, 2Gb RAM DDR400, 2 x 180Gb SATA, 256Mb Nvidia |

Perhaps you should use memtest86 to test the RAM to make sure that is the problem. It should find a problem if you do "All Tests" if there is a problem. _________________ AMD 64 3500+, 2Gb RAM DDR400, 2 x 180Gb SATA, 256Mb Nvidia |
