uhci.c: USB UHCI at I/O 0xe400, IRQ 10

is the last line that shows. I have no USB devices attached.

What could I have screwed up this time???

I've had similar problems when installing Gentoo on a Laptop machine. Autodetection fails and the system freezes. Use the boot disk for Gentoo 1.2 then, after getting to the point it is time to put the tarball on the system, replace the CD with the 1.4 CD and get the 1.4 tarball. It worked for me.

I got this far, but the kernel I build from 2.4.19-r10 has the problem of hanging at this point. If I rebuild without USB support, it instead hangs during Yenta (PCMCIA?) probes.

I am dead in the water at the moment.

I have heard ACPI and APM often reported as causes of these hangs, especially with laptops.

Do you have SMP enabled in your kernel? See https://forums.gentoo.org/viewtopic.php?p=202769

I just found out that the "Make CPU Idle calls when idle" option hangs my system :(
