I ran script 1 through 3 and during 3 it says
I did emerge -p gcc and it thinks gcc3.2 is installed,
These are the packages that I would merge, in order:

[ebuild R ] sys-devel/gcc-3.2.1-r6
but when I do emerge -cp gcc
it says
sys-devel/gcc

omitted: none

>>> clean: No packages selected for removal.
What the hell do I do now?

Well, here is what I'm doing.

I did emerge prune gcc and then emerge -e glibc pam-login to pick up where the script left off. What that finishes, I'll run the rest of the script and hopefully it will work.

It appears to be working so far.
Basicallly I am doing what https://forums.gentoo.org/viewtopic.php?t=28864&highlight=upgrade+failed this guy did
