I have one thing that is annoying the hell out of me :evil:

I have to use the oss emulation from alsa because some of the apps i use can only use oss. That's all well but i do not want to have the oss mixer settings first in the gnome mixer app, i want alsa to be first and then the oss. Does anybody know if this is at all possible and if it is how to do it ;)

many thanks,
Infirit

In Gnome open

"Applications>Desktop Preferences>Advanced>MultiMedia Systems Selector"

In the Audio Tab choose ALSA as the default sink and source. The mixer applet should now use ALSA as the default mixer.

Thanks, i already have that set to alsa. The gnome-volume-control program is what is annoying. It has now 2 tabs for the oss mixer and alsa mixer and for some reason the oss mixer is always in the first tab from the left. What i would like to do is either have the alsa tab first or remove the oss tab if that is not possible.

Thanks

change your USE flags in /etc/make.conf:

USE="-oss +alsa"

remerge gstreamer, gst-plugins and gnome-media in that order. oss mixer will no longer show up in the gnome-volume-control.

I fyou need to keep oss in your USE flags for other packages you can put "-oss" in the per package USE settings for gst-plugins.

echo media-libs/gst-plugins -oss >> /etc/portage/package.use
