I have one thing that is annoying the hell out of me
I have to use the oss emulation from alsa because some of the apps i use can only use oss. That's all well but i do not want to have the oss mixer settings first in the gnome mixer app, i want alsa to be first and then the oss. Does anybody know if this is at all possible and if it is how to do it
many thanks,

In Gnome open
"Applications>Desktop Preferences>Advanced>MultiMedia Systems Selector"
In the Audio Tab choose ALSA as the default sink and source. The mixer applet should now use ALSA as the default mixer. _________________ Gentoo: it's like wiping your ass with silk. |

Thanks, i already have that set to alsa. The gnome-volume-control program is what is annoying. It has now 2 tabs for the oss mixer and alsa mixer and for some reason the oss mixer is always in the first tab from the left. What i would like to do is either have the alsa tab first or remove the oss tab if that is not possible.
Thanks _________________ EASY TO INSTALL = Difficult to install, but instruction manual has pictures.

change your USE flags in /etc/make.conf:
USE="-oss +alsa"
remerge gstreamer, gst-plugins and gnome-media in that order. oss mixer will no longer show up in the gnome-volume-control.
I fyou need to keep oss in your USE flags for other packages you can put "-oss" in the per package USE settings for gst-plugins.
echo media-libs/gst-plugins -oss >> /etc/portage/package.use _________________ Gentoo: it's like wiping your ass with silk. |
