Hi,

I installed gentoo on a amilo m pentium centrino 1.6 box with 1GB ram and 80 GB disk (stage 1). I am trying to emerge xine but, for some reason, it tries to install lirc-0.7.0_pre7 and it doesn't succeed. I had to emerge config-kernel (and before unmask it), so that I could do a

config-kernel --allow-writable=yes

This allowed writing the kernel but now emerging stops at

make[1]: Leaving directory `/var/tmp/portage/lirc-0.7.0_pre7/work/lirc-0.7.0pre7'
make: *** [all] Error 2

!!! ERROR: app-misc/lirc-0.7.0_pre7 failed.
!!! Function src_compile, Line 87, Exitcode 2
!!! (no error message)

Why does it try to install lirc at all?! What is the connection to xine?! And why cannot it emerge it? :?:

thanks for any help...

Because xine frontends can make use of it. At this point of information from you, i could only guess you're trying to emerge xine-ui or another frontend with the "lirc" USE-flag set. Check if this USE-flag is set and if you don't need lirc-support disable it. You can use emerge -pv packagename to see which USE-flags are used (and which package requires lirc).
