I'm currently compiling my way through a Stage1 install... actually I'm well passed Stage1, but that's where I started.

I've been reading the posts and howto's regarding Bootsplash and am very interested in getting it working, but have hit a wall.

Grub doesn't seem to recognize any extended video modes on my Nvidia GF4 Ti4200. It only displays options 1 - 8 and using vga=ask returns the same results. It refuses to accept vga=0x317.

Is this a known issue? Could someone suggest how I might resolve this?

Thanks,
Jason

Which framebuffer driver did you put in your kernel?
Although I have had some problem with the nvidia framebuffers and I use the VESA one, the nvidia one isn't that buggy that it doesn't do anything at all... But which one did you select?

Thanks for the quick reply, I would have got back to you sooner but the the Forum seems to have been down (or too heavily loaded) for the last several hours.

I'm using the Vesa fb and have tried both vga=ask and several permutations of video=vesa:mtrr,1024x768 and video=vesafb:mtrr,1024x768 without success.

What concerns me is that vga=ask only returns text-modes and none of the extended graphics modes. In fact, Grub isn't even displaying its splash. It worked with Fedora. Any ideas what could be causing this?

I'm using an Asus NVIDIA GeForce 4 Ti 4200 (128MB) on an Asus A7V266-e mobo (latest BIOS rev).

My current grub.conf looks like:

Code:
default 1
timeout 10
spashimage=(hd0,0)/grub/splash.xpm.gz

title=Gentoo Linux 2.6.9-2
root (hd0,0)
kernel /kernel-2.6.9-2 root=/dev/md1 video=vesa:mtrr,1024x768 splash=verbose vga=ask
initrd=/initrd-gentoo-1024x768

Am I missing something?

Jason
