I'm guessing I may have to recompile them... but has anybody had some success in getting GTK2.2.4 apps to use the GTK2.4 fileselector?

I beleive the apps have to switch over to the new API. They just can't be recompiled.

| when i applied the file selector patch to gtk2.2, they all just used it (no recompile, etc.). guess it works the same way now that its official. |

No. That's different. That file selector patch doesn't give you the file selector from GTK 2.4. IIRC, it's the Ximian one. I can't recall clearly though.
GTK 2.4 is API-compatible with previous GTK releases. Anything that hasn't changed its code to use the new file selector will still use the old one. |

file selector patch hacks != new file selector API

| I guess if you're feeling adventurous you could try applying the same hacks to it, or maybe modify the old filebox code yourself to use the new fileselector API? |
