|
|
I have a NF7 mobo (nForce 2 "simple") and I can't use the net.
I've tried the reverse enginering driver and it doesn't work, i've tried to use genkernel but it's not possible to use the net.
It seems that the kernel can't find the "hard".
If you don't know the problems with nForce2 and you can't reply tomorrow I will do a transcription of the error.
Thanks |

Alt126,
Please boot the liveCD and run lsmod., post what you get.
Also look at ifconfig. Do you have two ethN devices.
That motherboard has both firewire and ethernet on board, its possible that Ethernet over firewire is eth0 and your real NIC is eth1.
Gentoo only sets up eth0 automatically. _________________ Regards,

The NF7 hasn't got firewire, only NF7-S has it (and AN7 too)
In the live-CD lsmod shows "forcedeth". I've seen in other posts that people who has the NForce2 (and lsmod shows them"forcedeth") uses "reverse enginering driver for nForce net" and I've tried it without any succes.
But the most strange thing is that genkernel fails too and I don't understand it cause genkernel works like the live-CD, true??
And if live-CD works, why genkernel not??
I've remembered that the message is like:
"the dispositive eth0 cannot be found"
Is not exact but the meaning is like that

Alt126,
If the liveCd works, the modules its using will be listed in its lsmod.
Make a note of them.
Now boot your own kernel and run lsmod. Cross off any modules listed from the the list you made above.
Does list any ethN interfaces?
If yes, the right kernel module is loaded, something else is stopping it working.
If no, modproble the first module not crossed off your list and use ifconfig to see if the interface is present now.
Repeat until ethN appears or you run out of modules.
Genkernel does not do the same as the liveCD. It builds almost everything possible as a module but (unlike the liveCD) makes no attempt to load any modules for you.
When ifconfig shows that your interface exists, you can attempt to start it with Code: | /etc/init.d/net.eth0 restart |

Thanks for helping me, I found the module at last (it was forcedeth) but I don't know why it doesn't load at "general start", I must do "modprobe" to load it.
I think I've wrotte it in a bad file
EDIT: I've found the error, now it loads while booting
THANKS |

You can allways emerge nforce-net.
