I have a gentoo system installed but now I need to add support for arabic. I've emerged the arabeyes fonts but I really need to make it like how windows is where i can switch between english and arabic typing is there a way that i can do this? Or is there just some way i can type in arabic without having to copy characters from the character map program?

Hi.
I saw this pop up in portage a while ago so you might want to give it a shot, its called:

Katoob (you can emerge it)

if you check the homepage for it there are a few other programs and utils to write in arabic (this is the same site for the fonts that you installed).
let me know if this works for you.

What desktop environment do you use?

In Gnome, right-click a panel, Add to panel > Utils > Keyboard Indicator, then open its properties and add Arabic.

In KDE, open Control Center, Regional and Accessibility (or something like that), and add Arabic to keyboard layouts.

Okay i have the keyboard layout set but its still just english type is there something else i have to install to make it use arabic. I installed the fonts... but still get english characters

Which DE?

Did you click the layout switcher to change layout from English to Arabic?
