Hello ladies and gentlemen. I have been futzing around with udev for a while now, it's time for some support.
I have followed the gentoo /dev guide and the gentoo wiki howto. I have edited /etc/udev/udev.conf, /etc/conf.d/rc appropriately. I have compiled the 2.6.9-r4 kernel with hotplug support, checked that devfs won't automount, emerged udev, hotplug, baselayout, etc. I tried devfs=nomount and gentoo=nodevfs kernel options. First option causes init to complain that "you wanted udev but support for it was not available", second option states that I don't have support for either udev or devfs. Both are false, as far as I can tell. Can somebody help me out here? Need more information?
Thank you. _________________ --

Hmm I do not pass any parameters to the kernel when I boot mine and udev works without problems. _________________ Meh. |

Check to make sure you have file systems/pseudo file systems/virtual memory support compiled in. _________________ A paranoid is someone who knows a little of what's going on.

the kernel parameter is just a safety check. if i remove the parameter, the rc option RC_DEVICES="udev" is read, as it should be. _________________ --

I was having the same problem and finally found this thread.
I added "gentoo=nodevfs udev" to my command arguement and bingo working
https://forums.gentoo.org/viewtopic.php?t=238686&start=25
I've confirmed this fixes my newly rebuilt laptop (Dell Inspiron 8200) and my desktop (P4-HT system w/ sata but booting off regular ide). |
