|
|
So I had a working system and I was trying to get away from an old love-sources kernel to a newer gento-sources one and in the process something went miserably wrong. I don't think there's anything wrong with the kernel because for now (as a last resort) I copied the config from a Live CD and it boots through all the kernel stuff just fine.
The problem is my computer reboots every single time (no matter whether I use the old kernel or new kernel) at some point in the init sequence. For the gentoo-sources-2.6.9 it reboots either during or just after the EVMS init script is called. Sometimes it prints a message that flashes for a fraction of a second saying "Restarting system" (I think, it's way to fast). Other times I see nothing.
Any ideas of what to do?
Thanks in advance,
nbrown |

You didn't happen to set your default run level to 6 or 0 did you? Check /etc/inittab:
Code: | # Default runlevel.
id:3:initdefault:

I don't believe so, but here's my inittab:
Code: | #
# /etc/inittab: This file describes how the INIT process should set up
# the system in a certain run-level.

How many times do you let it reboot?
My system used to reboot anywhere up to four times - seemingly at random - just as you decribe. But now it does not do it anymore - I have no idea why.
Sorry that is not very helpful - but I thought you may need to let it reboot a couple more times to get into the system. |

Sorry about not responding in so long, but I've been out of touch for about a month. Anyways, I let it reboot 7-8 times and then got bored and let it reboot into windows instead. Any other ideas out there or should I let it go longer? |
