|
|
Hi!
I recently re-compiled my 2.4.25 kernel to include some required features. Everything is fine (sound plays) - except for only out of the right channel....
At first I figured it was a connection problem, but if I boot to windows it works fine out of both....
I have checked all the mixers, etc - and everything seems fine - Any suggestions?
(I am using OSS)
Cheers,
A. |

aray,
It sounds like you have a balance control set hard over.
Since it works in Windows, the wiring and digital paths must be intact. That only leaves user settings.
Some mixers allow both channels to be controlled completely seperately. Check the CD, Master and PWM chanel settings. _________________ Regards,

Hey!
Thanks for the reply
I have checked in the mixer - everything seems fine. Is there any way to get a command line output to double-check?
Cheers,

What sound chip/card do you have? I have a fortissimo II and found that if the PCM setting is too high (ALSA or OSS), I only get sound out of one speaker. Try lowering the PCM volume level to 75% or so. |

Hey!
I have an old sound blaster live - using the drivers...
soundcore 3332 7 [emu10k1 sound]
(I have tried with the sound below 50% and still no luck)... What would be the best way for me to force a re-build of the whole OSS/ sound setup? (and is there a how-to around for it.... there use to be, but now all I can see is ALSA info -)
Cheers,

I don't know if this will help much, but I had this exact same problem, except I was using ALSA. In my case, I have onboard sound (intel8x0) with a input in the front and on the back (attached to the MB its self). I simply switched the cable from the back of my case to the front, and it worked on all channels, etc. I did, however, have to turn up the system volume a lot -almost to to 90% to hear the sound. Also, it worked fine in windows when it was plugged into the back.
Do you have 2 forms of input on your system? Maybe, switch the line from your speakers if you do? At either rate, its a configuration issue and if what I said above applies, this would only be a temporary fix. When I get more time later, I'll fix it so I can once again plug the cable into the back. Good luck with the configuration! |
