im having a few problems with sound at the moment. I can only get sound to come out of my front speakers.
My rears, sub and center do not have any output at all. I have sifted through these forums as well as playing around with the alsa-mixer and settings.
I have had a few sound issues under WindowsXP as well.
I have a 2 year old SB Live (dont have it here so I cant confirm model)
Does anyone know If I would have better sound using the SB rather than the onboard nforce3. |

Absolutely. The nforce alsa-drivers do not have hardware mixing support. I have a laptop with nforce and am envious to my girlfriend, who has my old SB Live Value.
Use the SB. It uses the emu10k1 driver, which is fully supported. _________________ In a world without walls and fences, who needs Windows and Gates?

Good deal - Geforce 4 for a SB Great!
I am almost finished with onboard devices.
My sound has caused me nothing but trouble, and my nforce network card is noisy (sounds like a outta tune radio) which I think is interfering with the sound controller.
ewan - Most motherboard vendors include an addon for the nforce3 which is a backplate with 3 extra channels - I was gonna buy one and give that a try - see if it gives me some extra output. - keep u posted.
I must admit that my snd quality also sucks under XP with Cambridge speaker system. But everything does work - Linux is way louder and clearer though but with less channels.
Does anyone know if Jack Sensing is available for Linux/Gentoo/alsa
