I have installed daapd on my machine, and it works almost beautifully on my gentoo box. I followed the Wiki, but while I can see all my *.m4a files from the server, I only get the file names, and not the actual tag information. These are itunes m4a files, and they are not protected. I can play them, I just don't see the information that I know is there. It seems that mt-daapd does handle these tags, but it is not in portage. Anyone have this trouble?

I have both mpeg4 and aac as use flags, and I do get the following message when emerging daapd
Code:

USE Flag 'mpeg4' not in IUSE for media-sound/daapd-0.2.3d

the use flag will want to make sure mpeg4ip is installed, so try installing mpeg4ip and see if it will see it if you try to remerge dappd.

also, try just putting mpeg4 on the command line w/ emerge... I edited the ebuild and it checks for the mpeg4 USE flag

Code:
USE="mpeg4" emerge daapd

also, you can do
Code:
emerge daapd -pv

and see if the mpeg4 flag is being considered

Well, I don't think it uses the mpeg4 tag any more, but instead the aac tag. I had already emerged this, but I figured out what the problem was. Apparently the changes didn't go through with my cache file. I stopped the daap daemon, and the erased the cache file. Then I started the daapd server and now it recognizes all the tags. This is awesome!!!

Checking /usr/portage/profiles/use.desc confirms it is aac and not mpeg4.

I created a mt-daapd-ebuild:
