I own a Fujitsu N3010 laptop, I installed Gentoo using an external keybaord with a PS/2 to USB adapter. When I boot the laptop without the keyboard it will not take any commands. GRUB accepts input but I cannot type in my user name to login, or Ctrl+Alt+Del to reboot it. What should I do about this. I can get ahold of a Gentoo LiveCD if needed, or I can SSH to the machine and access the system that way. Is there anything in the logs that would give me any clues? What else can I do? Thank you for your time.

It's possible that this hardware isn't even supported, I would check into that first.

LiveCD is a good idea because if it works there, you can see everything that was loaded while booting w/ it and you'll find the driver you need if it *is* available.

Does anyone have any ideas as to what I can do to get my keyboard working under Gentoo which is installed on my laptop hard drive. The keyoard works under the LiveCD and when GRUB comes up, so I know it's not faulty hardware, and I see no drivers listed under lsmod when I am in the LiveCD environment.

What kernel version are you trying? Could you try getting dmesg from the kernel that is not detecting the keyboard?

I got fed up with it and reinstalled with stage3. With the reinstall it works fine. The keyboard would work some of the times. Also it would sometimes start to work after about 5 or 10 minutes. Sorry I couldn't get the dmesg.
