I've set up courier-imap mostly according to the guide by beowulf. When I connect from another computer, I can't see any subdirectories. I have a lot of those, actually all my mail is in one subdirectory or another and I'm afraid I haven't read the specifications of the maildir format before I created those.

Under ~/.maildir/ I have subdirectories like linux/ , friends/ , school/ and so on. It seems like the remote client (thunderbird on a windows machine) can only see subdirectories with a name that starts with a dot ( .linux/ , .friends/ ...). However, I'll have to modify all my filters (I have a lot of those!) and mutt configurations (I don't even know if hidden directories will show in the folder list in mutt?), so I'd rather like to solve this without renaming or moving the directories.

modifying the file courierimapsubscriptions doesn't help. Or rather, I don't know how to adress the subdirectories? .maildir/.linux/ would be called INBOX.linux, but INBOXlinux doesn't work for .maildir/linux/

So, any suggestions?

The simplest way to do this would be to re-create each directory using the courier "maildirmake" command. Afterwards, create the old directory names as symlinks.

Hey, that seems to work fine. I'll have to remember to make a link every time I create a new subdirectory, but I can live with that.

Thanks! :D
