I tried the skype forums but they don't seem to be very helpful. Has anyone here gotten Skype to work under linux? I can't get people to hear me, and I can't hear them. I tried chowning /dev/dsp to my user, I've tried chmod 777 it, I've tried running in user and root. The closest I've gotten is that I can hear the ring as root. But the person can't hear me and I can't hear them. My microphone works fine, I can record in another program with no problem and when I talk in it, I can hear it through my speakers. Gentoo with latest version of Skype, ALSA drivers for ESS Maestro 2E soundcard, using fluxbox (no KDE or Gnome). Any help would be appreciated.

it works flawlessly, but sometimes i am able to hear the other while they don't, or the inverse ... but this problem is related to my connection :s (behind a restrictive firewall)

Maybe it's because of my firewall. I'm behind a SmoothWall.
