I can't seem to find any help on setting up my modem to do dial up under Linux. I have a Compaq Evo N800c and am running kernel 2.6.9-r1.
I have an Agere Win Modem, and according to Windows (I dual boot with XP), it is on COM4, PCI bus 2, device 4, function 0. I know very little about hardware so a lot of that doesn't mean anything to me.
I tried doing wvdialconf, but it failed with:
Code: |
Scanning your serial ports for a modem.
ttyS0<*1>: ATQ0 V1 E1 -- failed with 2400 baud, next try: 4800 baud
ttyS0<*1>: ATQ0 V1 E1 -- failed with 4800 baud, next try: 9600 baud
ttyS0<*1>: ATQ0 V1 E1 -- failed with 9600 baud, next try: 19200 baud
ttyS0<*1>: ATQ0 V1 E1 -- failed with 19200 baud, next try: 115200 baud
ttyS0<*1>: ATQ0 V1 E1 -- and failed too at 115200, giving up.
Port Scan<*1>: S1
ttyS2<*1>: ATQ0 V1 E1 -- failed with 2400 baud, next try: 4800 baud
ttyS2<*1>: ATQ0 V1 E1 -- failed with 4800 baud, next try: 9600 baud
ttyS2<*1>: ATQ0 V1 E1 -- failed with 9600 baud, next try: 19200 baud
ttyS2<*1>: ATQ0 V1 E1 -- failed with 19200 baud, next try: 115200 baud
ttyS2<*1>: ATQ0 V1 E1 -- and failed too at 115200, giving up.
Port Scan<*1>: S3 S4 S5 S6 S7
Sorry, no modem was detected! Is it in use by another program?
Did you configure it properly with setserial?
|
Which is funny, because it seemed to only look on serial ports 1 and 3, and I know it's on serial port 4, yet there don't seem to be any options for wvdialconf.
So do I need to use setserial to do something funky? Or are the some prerequisite emerges that I don't have? So far I have emerged ppp and ltmodem, but don't really know if they are configured or if they are doing any good presently...
Thanks for any help. |

Ola !
I used to own one of those gastly things....
They are compatible with :
Askey 1456VQH-T2 PCI
and the Pragmatic I56LVP Data/Fax/TAM PCI
Did you examine your kernal ? You have to build in :
SLIP support (or even better PPP)
!! not as module if I remember correctly !!!
if everything goes well you should have a network card called "ppp0"
You should be able to open it and use hayes compatible commands like ATDT etc.... (I forget how )
The only thing I NEVER EVER got it to do, was get DHCP from my ISP.
Anyway, I have cable now so I trew it away
Jessy
PS, maybe this helps too :
