|

Hi,
My install on a Sony Vaio PCG-F580 was going very well (following the install guide exactly) until I hit the bootstrap stage. I am doing a stage1 install. I have done the emerge sync. The bootstrap gets as far as ncurses, then I get this:
Code: | Using <sys-libs/ncurses-5.2.20020112a
Calculating dependencies !!! Name error in : category or package part missing.
Traceback (most recent call last):
File "/usr/bin/emerge", line 1220 in ?
mykey=portage.db[portage.root]["porttree"].dep_bestmatch(mypkg) |
and so on for a few pages. Could this be something to do with the version of gcc that got rsync'ed? I read somewhere that ncurses-5.2.20020112a was patched to work with gcc 3, but I'm not running that, I'm running the version that came on the CD.
Any help would be greatly appreciated. |

Further to this, I tried a stage2 install, it worked OK as far as emerge system, then I got:
Code: | Calcuating system dependenies -
!!! Error: couldn't find match for sys-devel/ld.so in syscreate1
|
Any ideas how to resolve this? |

This is the exact same thing I'm searching for the answer to. Can someone explain to us please!
Thanks

also commands in the install instructions aren't working such as : lynx cfdisk wget. Just for you that will ask me yes I checked the md5sums and verified the cd after I burnt it. |

I assume people are working from a 1.2 install CD? If so, after you do your first "emerge sync", you must update portage manually. The version may be different on your system, but here's an example: Code: | # cd /
# tar xvjf /usr/portage/sys-apps/portage/files/portage-rescue-2.0.44-x86.tbz2
# emerge portage | Hopefully this will improve matters. _________________ For every higher wall, there is a taller ladder |
