Hi. I am running 2004.3 stable x86 on a P2 400 that I've had gentoo on before with no troubles. The last couple of times I've installed on P2 hardware with Intel 440BX chipsets, I've noticed some latency in the interactivity. If I issue a command, the system takes 15-20 seconds to react and then works wonderfully. The latency is especially noticeable in network services (www, rsyncd, sshd, dhcpd all take up to a minute to react). This is after sitting idle for a few minutes between commands. If I'm typing commands one after another, it usually works fine. There is no power mgmt enabled in 2.6.9 kernel. There are no indications in dmesg or any of the log files.
The whole system was compiled from stage 1 with -march and O3.
I'd post more info on my system, but I'm not sure what might be relevent. Please help me. I've installed gentoo many times flawlessly, and this is really bothering me. |

do you have any zombie processes or anything that's really tasking the processor running? (i.e. check out top in another window while you're trying to get it to go)
