this is the error I get when trying to play tuxracer when not root:
Code: |
atom@saturn /home/atom $ tuxracer

it works when I try it as root, so it would seem I need to change permissions.
if it helps, this is how I start my comp up:
[turn on]
login: atom
password:
$ startx _________________ Atoms are watching... |

On my system, I own the files after logging in. I login using xdm. A quick check did not show me where the permissions were set, but setting them by hand should fix your problem. |

weird, i don't seem to own them after logging in... i don't login using xdm though, maybe that's the problem.
After a chmod 777 /dev/nvidia* everything seems to work, but how can I get to own the files when logging in? _________________ Atoms are watching... |

Looks like this is controled with the file /etc/security/console.perms. I'm not sure who uses that, but what is supposed to happen is things in there are set when you login. Make sure that file referres to the nvidia device files. |

Aren't those typically "owned" by root and in the video group? Just put yourself in the video group. That's what I did. edit /etc/group or use usermod. _________________ --You talk the talk, but do you waddle the waddle?

On my system, the permissions are 600 so that would not work. |

When I had this error in the past, I actually read what it said to read in order to fix it. Here, this should jog your memory....

The bold indicates which file to read. |
