Kernel 2.6.9-r9 + SANE + SCSI HP scanner

Anybody else having trouble getting SANE to recognize their scanner? Using this combo my kernel sees my scanner but SANE still doesn't find my scanner. I've scoured the SANE HP backend FAQ. It had some suggestions but none worked. On a hunch I also tried the masked sane-backends-1.015 instead of 1.014 and that did not help either.

Now when I want to use my scanner I have to boot a 2.4.2x kernel... Anybody?

EDIT: Incidentally kernel 2.6.10 doesn't seem to help either.

I had inadvertently compiled the 'old' driver for the AIC7xxxx card instead of the new version. I recompiled the kernel with the change and now sane finds my scanner fine.
