First, the good news:

I have a rather recent gentoo (1.4 rc2 with the latest syncs) and must say I really like it. After sorting out lots of details, I have just about everything I regularly use set up (even things that did not work in my previous commercial Linux distro).

Now to the point:

I cannot print PDF files. To be more specific, it seems that ghostscript does not like to parse them when printing. I am using ghostscript 7.05.5,
CUPSD 1.1.18, and GIMP-PRINT 2.4.2. I have gotten the same stack error from gs when I view the generated PostScript (from either Acrobat or gv) and when I turn on 'debug2' in CUPSD and see what it gets from gv.

So, before I rack my brains, could someone with a similiar setup see if they can print (or even view in ghostview) this PDF:

http://www.migrationsverket.se/blankett/mblank/300031mbl.pdf

It could just be that the PDF file is odd. I did try this with a PDF that I
could print from another Linux. However, that does not really help me
as I want to do so from Gentoo.

FWIW, this is the error from gs that gets printed by gs both on the file direct and in the cup log (where this came from):

I was able to view the pdf file with Acrobat, but not ghostview. Not sure if it is related.

I could view it with Acrobat Reader 5 as well. I could even enter all the form data.

However, I could not print it. I tried changing the postscript level (1/2/3) when printing to see if that made any difference. Nope.

Adobe Reader generates PostScript, which is then passed to ghostscript to generate the actual printer-specific code.

I would imagine that you cannot print a page, as it required ghostscript working with the file. If you cannot view it with ghostscript, then you cannot print it to a non-postscript printer.
