Guy's.
Could I please ask you all for some advice. I'm considering investing some hard earned strerling on a Fujitsu LifeBook P7010 . I like the portabailty of it and the Screen seems to be getting good reviews.
I look after a number of web applications and I'm looking for a machine which I can carry around with me to:
Check Email,
SSH to Hosted sites,
Lite web Development,
Web surfing,
Document wriiting and Reading
and also IM.
I would prefer to do the above in a Gentoo environment rather thant XP pro. Do any of you have any knowledge of running gentoo on this thing.
Also as a side issue I also want to use the Merlin U530 UMTS PCMCIA card as well.
I will be gratefull for any advice you can provide.
Regards

I recently setup a lifebook for someone at work. Don't remember the model number at the moment, but I was able to get most things working in gentoo. The stuff you have listed should not be a problem.
Not sure what the merlin U530 card is, but if it is anything like the sprint merlin card, it should work fine as well. |

I figured it was a cell net card, I just have never seen that particular module before. I have used a couple of them and gotten them to work, so I think you should have a short at making that one work. |

I'm about to buy one of these too... do some google searching. Seems like a lot of people have gotten everything to work well except the scroll thingy and the finger print scanner. _________________ http://amphibio.us |

Hi. I just got a p7010A (centrino that is). Pretty much everything works (wide screen,
dri, wireless, usb, cpufreq and speedstep, suspend to ram and to disk).
A couple of problems I've had. First, the synaptics driver is a real pita. If I
load and unload the uhci-hcd and psmouse modules a few times then
the touchpad works with the synaptics driver. But I can't figure out how
to make it work consistently and without manual intervention (the
touchpad works fine "out of the box" but the synaptics driver provides
a lot of extra features).
Second, I can't suspend to disk directly from X (kde). If I open a second virtual
terminal and suspend from there then I can get back to the X session just
fine (with alt-ctrl-F7) after the machines wakes up (it wakes up in the text
terminal of course). Anyone know a fix for this or a way to script switching
to a another terminal and issuing the 'hibernate' command?
Anyway, after suspend to disk, dri is gone. If I run, say, glxgears I get a message
with something like i830irqwait in it and the gears are locked up.
Which is funny, since I use the i915 driver in order to get the wide screen. Anyone
got a fix?
But it's a great little computer |
