|
|
I have been installing Gentoo on my new laptop. I had everything but ut2003 working, I figured out that it was a lack of agp support and got glx working properly. adding amd64-agp. but now when I go to close the X to either command line or xdm the whole system locks and reboots .
I am a noob and I am sure I just don't know where to look for the errors. I tried xorg.0.log, nothing looked wrong
Ati 9600 mobility -> ati-drivers-3.14.6
amd64 3200
VIA amd64 agp -> amd64-agp
xorg 6.7.*
I am not sure what else to add to help diagnose this.
pls help _________________ I lost my mind

Are you using the radeon framebuffer driver? If so, try switching to the vesa driver instead - the radeon driver can cause problems if you use it along with the ATI fglrx driver. _________________ Per Ardua Ad Astra

ok it was something to do with the fb driver
took the vesafb out of the kernel and the ati fb drivers out
put vga16 drivers into the kernel and now it doesn't crash
but I don't know what vga= options to pass to the kernel so that the fb loads properly 1280x800@60
thanks for the help thus far _________________ I lost my mind

If it's a nonstandard resolution like that I don't know offhand, but search the forums, I'm fairly sure someone has already worked that out. _________________ Per Ardua Ad Astra
