Is there a way to cap the cpu usage for normal users? I want to make it so that users would only be able to use 98% so that programs that are very cpu intensive dont lock up my system. I want the last 2% so I have enough just to switch from the xorg to the console and login as root so I can kill any process.

I have no idea how to limit CPU usage but one option may be to login the users somehow using the nice command so everything they run is at a lower priority. This would allow root to have priority over any user process. _________________ Underwater photo gallery

If you compiled with USE=pam, which you should have, then you can set the priority to run the user processes with in /etc/security/limits.conf |
