Qmail .maildir Permissions

I've been following this guide: http://www.gentoo.org/doc/en/qmail-howto.xml

I have problem with these two things:

1. the permissions qmail set for mails when they are created in the maildir makes it impossible for anyone but the owner to read the mail.
2. courier cannot therefore read/delete the mail if the mail isn't readable by vpopmail

Where can I change so that the mails from qmail are created with proper permissions so that also courier can read the mails?
