any progress on the nforce4 usb issue? i still can't use my usb mouse (usb harddisk works though). tried kernel 2.6.9-gentoo-r9, 2.6.10-ckX - 2.6.11-ckX, 2.6.12-mm-XX

Did you tried this patch?
It was the solution till 2.6.11. Now i don't need it, but it does not hurt to try...

EDIT: oh, sorry, this patch is in 2.6.11 now. I know now what usb hell are you talking about... the one with cpu frequency governor... i haven't tried any 2.6.12_rc myself, but you can always set 1800 Mhz as the minimum frequency..
EDIT2: It seems that now it's resolved on 2.6.12 (at least for me).

as you have my same mobo, could you please tell me what BIOS Version you have?
I get an error in my dmesg from my it87 0-0290: detected broken BIOS defaults, disabling pwm interface which does not allow my to see any output from sensors

I have got one of these boards and I have got SPDIF working, sort of. I have no volume control of any kind though. I just used the intel8x0 driver (either from the kernel or the alsa-drivers ebuild). To get sound from the SPDIF you have to mute (yes, I know  ) one of the channels. On my config it is called "IEC958 Playback AC97-SPSA" although on a friends it is called something different. Once this is muted the SPDIF works although it is far from perfect. All sounds are resampled to 48KHz and the volume controls, in fact all the mixer controls, do nothing.
What I have been doing however is using the software volume control in XMMS to control the volume of music. I then use a SoundBlaster Live for all my other sounds. Which does have the advantage of having music on my stereo system and sound on the PC speakers which is what I wanted from the outset. Kind of cool but like I say, far from perfect. |

There is no way you can make this it87 error go away cause of bad bios. I also have it and my board is gigabyte. Check here http://lists.lm-sensors.org/pipermail/lm-sensors/2005-January/010112.html . I have water cooling so i dont need this but you might try it out.
edit: i checked the it87.c and fix_pwm_polarity module option seems to be present since 2.6.12 so you can try to "modprobe it87 fix_pwm_polarity=1" |

I've used your /etc/asound.state, restarted alsasound, looked at alsamixer and used speaker-test, but all seems to be the same.

I hate this motherboard. (Asus A8n-SLI Deluxe). I am so frustrated.
I had my soundblaster live working somehow, until yesterday. Then, while playing wow in cedega, the system froze and after restarting i got those

I'm quite interested about his. I got an asus a8n-sli (standard not deluxe) running 1001 bios and I coulnd't make it recognize my sb live 1024.
I tried all pci slots but dmesg always report this odd message : AC'97 0 does not respond - RESET and after probe of 0000:05:08.0 failed with error -5
Anyone got a working config with soundblaster live and a8n-sli ? |

Have tried a few combinations of bios versions, alsa-drivers but none worked.
I was searching the bugtracker of alsa for the ac97 errors and found a few entries, but they havent been assigned yet.
Btw. most entries were not emu10k1 related. It was different chipsets that experience the exact same error.
Have no clue, i am back to onboard sound and i miss hardware mixing a lot. |

I haven't got this motherboard (I have a similar Asus, P4P800), but I cannot thank you enough for this. I've been pulling my hair out for over 2 weeks trying to beat SPDIF into working, and this got it working completely. For others, I got it working in xfce4-mixer (and alsamixer) by just dragging the bar down to zero. Hope this helps someone. |

Hey guys,
I have this mobo (well the ASUS a8n-sli deluxe) and Im having a real weird problem. With two drives plugged into the SATA 1 ports (into SATA1 port 1 and 2) both my drives work fine. However if I plug a drive into SATA1 port 3 i get a kernel panic on boot:

Now I found that quite odd, so i altered my line in grub from "root=/dev/sda3" to "root=/dev/sdb3". And, it booted! Well, it didnt kernel panic it just reached the fstab and attempted to mount my partitions (still set as sda) which obviously failed. I have to say I find this really weird and Im not sure where to go about fixing this. It more than likely isnt a hardware problem as I have winders on the box too and it boots fine and is able to see all the drives.
Has anyone any ideas on this? I'm hella confused and don't know where to start bugfixing this :/

ports SATA1 and SATA3 are boot or primary ports. SATA2 and SATA4 are just data ports.
I might be mistaken. |

If it is anything like my motherboard of the same model then the (nVidia) ports map as follows...
Port 1 - SDA - C:
Port 2 - SDC - D:
Port 3 - SDB - E:
Port 4 - SDD - F:
You can imagine the fun I had configuring a software RAID array.
I'm not sure about the other on-board controller - I can't remember what it is, how many ports it has or any of that. All I know is that I disabled it and used the nVidia ports. Hope this is of some help at least. |

Cheers for the help guys. I got it. Still seems hella weird tho.
SDA: Port 3
SDB: Port 2
SDC: Port 4
I then changed the bios to boot off my sda disk since it set itself to SDB for some reason. Would of assumed it would remember the disk. Well least it works now, but can't say i look forward to adding any more disks :/

Hi,
I've got a asus a8n-sli premium working with an amd 3800+ x2 system.
However, I really can't get the optical spdif to work.
Has anyone succeeded in doing so?
I once read on the web, that someone succeeded in getting the light to blink...
... i don't see any light at all?
Has anybody an idea what's wrong?
To which kernel option does th optical spdif belong to?
