I am trying to setup Gentoo under VMWare. The PCI autodetect utility detects the virtual network card and scsi card. I can setup networking fine, however I can't find the /dev entry for the hard drive. /dev/sda does not exist so I am not sure what to do.
Any help is appreciated.
Thanks,

You can use /dev/sda by modprobe sd_mod. |

I tried it too with the same problem.
The solution was to set up a virutual machine with a virtual IDE harddisk, VMware uses virtual SCSI HDD's as standard (the windows version does it so).
After doing so, the harddisk were, where they should be. the detection of the vitual scsi controller seems not to be buggy.
