|
|
i am newbie..
with amd64
and gentoo 2004.3
i have the universal livecd
and the packages cd.. both iso.. ill burn them now!!
but....
in the hand book... it sais..
Code: |
Now install the packages you want. The Packages CD contains several prebuilt binaries, for instance KDE:
Code Listing 5: Installing KDE
# emerge --usepkg kde
Be sure to install the binaries now. When you do an emerge --sync to update Portage (as you will learn later), the prebuilt binaries might not match against the ebuilds in your updated Portage. You can try to circumvent this by using emerge --usepkgonly instead of emerge --usepkg.
Congratulations, your system is now fully equipped! Continue with Where to go from here? to learn more about Gentoo |
as far i understand....
i have to use the command emerge --usepkg xxx
for kde
and gnome
and for ...
and for every packages... that is too much.. i cant be doing this for every package on the cd...
is there a command that does them all... i want to install all the package on the cd including the 32 and 64 bit
i guess that commmand will help emerge --p <<<, is that right or am i still new bie
so can you plz help me with this bit so i start the installation.. or give me the commmand line... or any more info that might help
thanx in advance

You don't have to.
After the base installation, you can do it all with one line:
emerge --usepkg kde
will emerge all dependecies of KDE using precompiled packages and install all the various KDE components, also from packages.

thank you very much
i guess the command you gave me will install kde and all of its stuff e.g. games and applications....
what about the libraries (pytho, gcc, wxpytho, codecs, libGL....etc) .. who is going to install them, do i have to do them manually or after installing gentroo,
aswell as gnome and mozilla ....etc
if u know what i mean
is it still going to be the same command ( emerge --usepkg kde)???
*** Remember am using X86_64 Arch,, which requires multi libs (emulator) for gcc ***
than you very much |

emerge kde will resolve and install all dependencies that is needed by KDE, i.e xorg-x11, libs etc.
try "emerge -vp --usepkg kde"
first and it will show you everything that it will emerge.

Does it still try to emerge xfree86 by default? I hope not...
Anyway, remember that you can just install packages normally by using
Code: | emerge [packagename] |
Or preferably,
Code: | emerge -upv [packagename] |

I installed gentoo for the first time about 2 months ago, and I learned so much just from the installation procedures... It's great! Then I had to remove it, for 'professional' reasons, but now, as soon as was possible, I'm installing it again on my desktop, and as soon as it's done I'll install it on my home server too. It's addictive, the feeling of really being in control |
