|
|
Hello,
I have been using many video replay program for some time now. I mainly use xine and mplayer. I have found that, regardless of the program, whenever I attempt to play DVD video, I get an annoying "pop" and a hissing sound fairly high above the noise floor.
I recently found this same problem even in a game I run under Wine (Heroes 3 of Might and Magic) which has a small video opening for 3DO.
Is this just a driver problem? I have an intel8x0 and use ALSA for my audio. I have noticed this problem across many versions of ALSA. I tend to think that it is related to my video or audio codec, but I don't know what to reinstall.
Any ideas would be appreciated. |

I think your problem is just the onboard card.
The analog signal of your sound is just garbaged by all the electronic components of the MB.
Anyways you could try OSS see if its any better.
you could also buy a cheap SB live (dont buy a audigy2) |

I am not so sure that it is the hardware. The reason I say this is that the exact same video exhibits no hissing or popping under Windows. The 3DO opening screen plays perfectly fine, as do DVDs.
What drivers could I try reinstalling? |
