Hi :). I just built a computer from parts around my house. At the moment I dont have a spare nic but I have put in a generic pos wifi card that does work I do not know the model or make and gentoo doesnt pick it up automatically. I know there is a command that gives info on the pci stuff but I cannot think of it so I'm wondering what are some basic generic wifi modules I can try out. Thanks

This is my experience with wireless cards:

emerge -s ndiswrapper

http://ndiswrapper.sourceforge.net

http://ndiswrapper.sourceforge.net/phpwiki/index.php/List?PHPSESSID=17af68beae9de66e70d45ef6e0bb0fa5

There's some information to get you started.

Also try lspci

Abz.

For anyone else who reads this post there are wireless drivers in portage for specific chipsets. Some include madwifi, ipw2100, ipw2200.
