alright, ill try to explain this as good as possible.

For some time, ive been riunning a server under gentoo, but a few hours ago it stopped working on me.

When the server boots, you get everything loaded, kernel, network, hostname, etc.
(so its right after setting the default gateway right now)

But it seems, that right before Local gets loaded, it doesnt continue, and stops all activities.

I am runninf on a 2.6.8 kernel, wich worked fine before this happened.
This kernel isnt configged with genkernel.

No hardware replacements have been done.

Anyone who knows more about this problem, and maybe can help me out?

Boot to livecd, build a new kernel... I bet that would work.

im sorry to tell it didnt work... i tried 2 kernel compilations.

the kernel running on it at the moment though, is one who ive been using since far before the error occured

I also saw a similar error in another topic, about read only root system, wich was also a problem with me.
This is fixed, but the problem remains.

ok, getting somewhere.

I turned off all boot programs of the init.d, and then rebooted, and it worked again.

i dont know how or why though..

placing all back one by one now, and no problems anymore!
