Problems emerging patch-2.5.9. I can't give you guys the exact error message because I can't transfer the text file over.
Here is the error:

checking for C compiler default output...configure: error: C compiler cannot create executables. make: *** No targets specified and no makefile found. Stop

emake failed.
that's news to me? Any help would be greatly appreciated. Forgive the message if it's weird...I'm using links2 to post this...lol

Can you post the CFLAGS= line from your /etc/make.conf ? (you may have a typo there) |

Can you post the CFLAGS= line from your /etc/make.conf ? (you may have a typo there) |
my CFLAGS are: -march=i686-pc-linux-gnu -O2 -pipe -fomit-frame-pointer

WHAT made you set -march=i686-pc-linux-gnu ??? 
Set it to your own processor architecture, such as pentium3, athlon-xp, etc.
And one last thing to note: The comments in make.conf are most definitely not for show only. Read them carefully and set the CFLAGS correctly. In the comments you will find a list of all valid -march= architectures. |

I'm sorry I wasted webspace and your time....CFLAGS was it.......I feel stupid now. I should have put -march=pentium4...*slaps head*
