|
|
Basically, sometimes after I rip a DVD (so I can play it in VLC without having to hunt for the disk), the drive I use can't open. I can access what's on the drive, but the drive won't eject. Using a paper clip in the emergency eject hole will get the disc out, but the drive still won't close or open on its own. The only way to fix this is to reboot. Nothing else I've tried has helped. |

Have you made sure the disk is unmounted before trying to eject it? If it is mounted, you cannot eject the disk.

Yes, the disk is never mounted in the first place. |

Maybe there are still any open file descriptors:
Code: | # lsof | grep $YOUR-DVD-DEVICE |
What happens if you try an eject "via software":
Code: | # emerge eject
# eject | |

That was one of the things I tried, no dice.
As for the open file descriptors, I'll check for that the next time this happens. |
