I got a new laptop for christmas that has an Intel PRO wireless 2200BG wireless network card (The computer that has the internet connection has a wireless gateway attached to it.) and I know that there's support for it in the portage tree although the file is not on the packagecd. my question is, is there anyway to use this device during installation? preferably a stage 1 install if at all possible. |

the problem is that your installation media needs to support it.
afaik the gentoo livecds do NOT support it.
you could try koppix, but I doubt it supports it either.
my suggestion is to use the built in ethernet if it has one, or get a pcmcia / usb nic and use that.
then once your system is up you can emerge ipw2200 and go from there.
also I found using the latest x86 baselayout makes wireless easier.
