I'm on my second attempt at a stage one install. I got errors like the one to follow this description on the first install numerous times. I thought perhaps I had done something I wasn't supposed to, but alas, I was wrong. This, and like errors, usually bring the system to a halt (crash but still able to type). Every now and then, it just exits the currently running process. It most often occurs with tar.

This time, it let me try to run tar again, but then it hard locked. (can't believe I typed all that, hehe)
Brief system specs: 2500+, ECS K7VTA3v6 KT333, 512MB PC2700, Gf2mx400, santa cruz 5.1, 3c905 nic, wintv go, 8gb wd, 2x maxtor 60gb on ite8212 raid card (but not even trying to install onto it yet).
