Could you post your /proc/cpuinfo please?

Hi!

I'd like to develop an iMac/eMac-based Gentoo system for dedicated purpose. Therefore, I'm looking for some info to compare the power of the used CPUs.
So, if you have an iMac/eMac running Linux, could you post the content of your /proc/cpuinfo please?

I'm not sure how you will compare the power of CPUs with that but here is mine:

As far as I know, the bogomips value gives an idea of how many operations the CPU can do in a certain amount of time. Of course, it's only a part of the truth, but since I'm comparing CPUs of the same architecture, it should give at least a hint.

My old Celeron 400 has a few more bogomips than a G4/400, but seems to be slower, which leads me to the conclusion better not to compare ppc and x86 values.
Of course, things like bus speed, hard disk throughput etc. are at least of the same importance, but this is easier to compare between x86 and ppc (e.g. 66 MHz bus speed for hard disks is the same on x86 and ppc: too slow for me :lol:

In case, anyone has a better idea, how to compare these things, don't hestitate to give me a hint

Oh, the old question of how to compare processor architectures. Personally, I don't really think that you can look at "mips" or anything like that, especially if you want to compare a RISC architecture (PowerPC) with a CISC architecture (x86).

I am sure that processor manufactors have speed benchmarks online which compare their own architecture to others (not that they'd be biased... ;-)

). But perhaps this will give you a hint? Depends on what you want to do with your box: pure computation (look at CPUs), graphics or sound (look at bus speeds and co-processor speeds), whatever.

Saying that one computer is better/worse than another one is just not doable, IMHO.

I want to compare Macs to each other, not x86 to ppc.
The question I try to answer is, how much a G3/400 iMac differs from a G3/500 or G3/600. Since the CPU is the only part, which is different, it should be possible to compare them using the bogomips value. Anyway, I know, this is only a part of the whole story.
I even won't compare an iMac (G3) to an eMac (G4) using the bogomips, because the rest of the hardware differs and should be included. The whole question is only to get a clue, how much the CPUs differ...

If I had some hundreds, I would buy all models and do a benchmark or simply try out, which is sufficent for my setup, but unfortunately I lack the money... :lol:
