It's not Atheros, it's acx_111 ( the drivers are being developed by some team... or you can use ndiswrapper, I use the drivers. Google for em' @ sourceforge)

I think you would have to compile the driver and then put it on the CD yourself, but I'm not really sure how exactly to do that... You could also do the install from the CD and then put the drivers on your computer and compile and install them afterwards then update. THat's what I did, but only cuz I couldn't get much help w/ getting it working for the install.

I'd look around for any guides on making/modifying the live CD's and for how full-featured the live Cd env. is. You might be able to just put the sources on and compile and load the modules from there. Not sure though.

try installing from knoppix, it detects my netgear wireless card just fine :D

http://www.gentoo.org/doc/en/altinstall.xml#doc_chap3

(the usermod cmd is no longer necessary with newer versions of knoppix)

I have the same one he does and knoppix didn't detect it. AFAIK no large distro's include the drivers for acx_1XX cards. (Some of the Netgear cards use other driversm like the WG311v1 for instance.)

If by MDIF you mean NDISwrapper, you need to d/l the windows drivers from the netgear site and install them with ndiswrapper. I have a atheros wifi card, so mine is autodetected, but i believe the process goes sumthing like this:

1. d/l this file: ftp://downloads.netgear.com/files/wg311v2_v2_0_0_7.zip
2. extract
3. find the inf file in there, should be sumthing like wg311v2.inf
4. run ndiswrapper -i [path to inf file]/wg311v2.inf
5. run ndiswrapper -l to be safe
6. modprobe ndiswrapper
7. wlcardconfig
8. sudo pump -i wlan0

a bit of a pain, but it should work (in theory)

give it a try, hope it helps
