I am installing gentoo linux on a :
700 P3 with 256 mb
netgear wg311 wireless adapter.
Gentoox linux stage 2 CD
I followed step by step in the online handbook, but the wireless adapter
doesn't seem to startup.
It is recognized as eth0.
I tried ifconfig eth0, and it is recognized. I tried to set up the ssid and WEP key but it doesn't take.
Any help is appreciated.
If all else fails I will got to a wired adapter. |

Are you having problems with getting the LiveCD up and running with your wireless card, or did you already get a Gentoo system installed but on booting can't get wireless networking going?
Two quick suggestions:
1. Go ahead and get your install done with the wired card so you can have a running Gentoo system, then work on the wireless later.
2. If you have the LiveCD running with your wireless card (the second scenario above), use "lsmod" to check to make sure that your kernel has the right modules built. _________________ I'm only hanging out in OTW until I get rid of this stupid l33t ranking.....Crap. That didn't work. |

Perhaps search through dmesg and find out if your module for your NIC is dependent on another module that isn't installed. |
