Hello

I am trying to install Gentoo on an ASUS P5AD2 Premium. One of the problems I immediately encounter during the installation of Gentoo is the fact I can't find a good module for the NIC, a 'Marvell Yukon 88E8052 PCI Express Gigabit', as stated by the manual.

I've tried using the module 'sk98lin', but it failed. I do not really know what to do now because I don't have tools like gcc on the livecd.

Ps: I'm using Gentoo Minimal LiveCD 2004.3

Thanks!
Tom

sk98lin should be the correct module. Maybe your NIC is too new to be supported by the current kernels.

The easiest way to get around this would be to put a different NIC in your machine during installation.

I put 2.6.9-r13 on an ASUS P4P800-E last night.
Was able to compile the Yukon code into the kernel. Works fine.
Did have trouble trying to modprobe sk98lin initially, so gave up.

Modeprobe worked fine on 2.6.8-r3, don't recall it being a kernel option.

Get this driver and patch with it your kernel, but be careful, this driver can not compile with 2.6.10 kernel, and probably some latest 2.6.9 kernels, because changes in pci support.
Driver in 2.6.9 doesn't support Marvell Yukon 88E8053 chip. Look at help for this driver in kernel configuration.
I think kernel 2.6.9 from Gentoo can compile this driver.
