I want to run my own DNS server, my current domain names are about to expire and since i have a server that pretty much runs everything, i think DNS is needed.

I would like to use djbdns, but i could find a good webbased front end that will allow me to add domains without too much hassle. Also i couldn't figure out daemon tools. I would like to use init scripts, but not sure how.
I'm find with Bind, but i read a lot of security problems with it. I don't mind to use it inside chroot. But it also doesn't have a webbased frontend. It does have a webmin module, but that module is very complicated. I need a more dumbed down version :D

I came across PowerDNS, its got mysql backend, which is great. The frontend is alright. But when i run it and then try adding my server as one of the nameserver of my domain name, it doesn't work.

DNS is something i never got into. I really want this to work. Has anyone had luck with a server that has nice webbased frontend?

Thank you.

Ok, i found this website http://www.djbdnsrocks.org which is great.
I've installed tinydns etc and everything is working as it should be i think.

But there's one problem. My bought the domain from http://firevision.net/ and when i try to change the nameservers of the domain to my server, it just refuses to do it.
It doesn't give any errors, i just dont know why its doing this.
Has anyone come across this problem?

webmin has web frontends for the most used programas in linux, BIND it's one of them

just emerge webmin

(I suggest you use bind in chroot enviroment, as it's really easy to do in gentoo, after emerge bind it will display a massage on how to do it)

Yes i know that. Anyway i've successfully installed tinydns. But i'm having this one problem that i cant change my nameserver to my server. It just refuses to change to that. It works with other servers. I just cant figure it out.
Maybe i need to open other ports, other then 53?

Let me explain my situation a bit more.
i have mooktakim.com as my homepage.
mail.mooktakim.com is the FQDN of my server.

I've also created an A record for ns1.mooktakim.com which point to the IP of my server.
All this is done using dyndns.org.

I have another domain mydomain.com with firevision.
Right now the nameservers are left out blank.

I setup tinydns on my server at ns1.mooktakim.com

I add a domain using VegaDNS, i use ns1.mooktakim.com as my primary dns.

I then update tinydns with the new domain.

I then goto firevision and try to add ns1.mooktakim.com as my primary nameserver for the domain mydomain.com
It fails. It doesn't give any errors, it just fails.
