I'm not sure how to disable bitmapped fonts. I use X.org and GNOME and keep seeing bitmap fonts, especially on www.theregister.co.uk in place of Helvetica (even though according to /etc/fonts/fonts.conf it is aliased to Verdana).

My friend on Ubuntu has a Helvetica which draws that page up nicely. I get this:

Any ideas? Verdana draws fine...

Cheers

Alex

How about acroread and other applications require bitmap-fonts? Will they use the truetype fonts instead?
