|
|
Hello,
I want to test the new beta of the xserver but I run into a few difficulties on my iBook
I am searching for an explanation of the USE-Flags, at the Gentoo USE-Flag-site I cannot find all ...
I think, I have to enable font-server truetype-fonts and type1-fonts, too.
Am I wrong? Is there something I forgot? What means minimal? Is ipv6 necessary for a desktop?
The other USE-Flags should be ok for desktop.
Code: |
m3xbook marex # emerge -pv xorg-x11
These are the packages that I would merge, in order:
Calculating dependencies ...done!
[blocks B ] app-text/dgs (from pkg x11-base/xorg-x11-6.8.1.901)
[ebuild U ] media-libs/freetype-2.1.9-r1 [2.1.5-r1] -bindist -debug +doc* +zlib 1,183 kB
[ebuild U ] x11-base/opengl-update-2.0_pre4-r1 [1.8.1-r1] 0 kB
[ebuild U ] x11-base/xorg-x11-6.8.1.901 [6.8.0-r3] (-3dfx) (-3dnow) +bitmap-fonts -cjk -debug +dlloader +dmx +doc* -font-server -hardened +insecure-drivers -ipv6 -minimal (-mmx) +nls +opengl +pam -sdk (-sse) -static -truetype-fonts -type1-fonts (-uclibc) +xprint +xv 152 kB
|
The next problem is the blocker dgs. emerge says there is no ebuild. Is it a bug or have I made a mistake? How should I remove it? Directly from the ebuild?
Code: |
m3xbook marex # emerge -pv app-text/dgs
These are the packages that I would merge, in order:
Calculating dependencies
emerge: there are no ebuilds to satisfy "app-text/dgs".

Can you explain it to me?

You don't need dgs anymore (i believe it has become part of xorg-x11). You can unmerge it like this:
For an explanation of USE-flags, try the following:
Code: | # grep flag /usr/portage/profiles/*desc
grep font-server /usr/portage/profiles/*desc |
As long as you're not on an ipv6 network, you can disable it. The various *-fonts will build those types of fonts. The flag font-server will build the font-server XFS. And minimal will build a very minimal Xserver. I think you're safe if you enable font-server, truetype-fonts, bitmap-fonts, type1-fonts and disable minimal and ipv6. |

For a description of the use flags, either use ufed (emerge ufed, you'll like it) or check /usr/portage/profiles/use.desc and /usr/portage/profiles/use.local.desc.
Since dgs is blocking, you would need to emerge unmerge dgs since its functionality is now part of xorg, and the ebuild has been removed. |
