|
|
I have just made the leap to dev-sources and have been overall impressed with the 2.6 kernel.
I have run up against a usb problem; my usb printer (through cups at Device URI: usb:/dev/usblp0 which is symlinked to /dev/usb/lp0 ) worked fine with 2.4.26. However, with the upgraded kernel my /dev/usb is now empty. Thus I receive the error "Printer not connected; will retry in 30 seconds..."
I've read and read, but the best I can gleam is the usb filesystem has changed somehow. I see that /proc/bus/usb has moved to /sys but does anyone know the location of /dev/usb or did I make a kernel misconfiguration?

There is nothing in /var/log pertaining to usb. Even when I tail -f /var/log/everything/current and physically insert and remove the usb cable, there is no messages.
Any help is greatly appreciated.

thx /dev/random, you pointed me in the right direction
after reading http://www.gentoo.org/doc/en/udev-guide.xml
i realized i was in limbo between udev and devfs. I migrated to udev as per the guide.
I also had to:
rc-update add coldplug boot |
