Howdy!
I emerged gdm, gnome-light, gnome-volume-manager on my Reiser4-gentoo (mm-sources-r2) and encountered no problems so far during the emerge. But when logging in with gdm I don't get any further than the splash screen...
It's no freeze whatsoever - I can use the mouse or login to another terminal, etc. But after 5min gnome is still at the splash screen and no disk activity.
I've already read a few posts and did the following:
cd /tmp/ && rm -rf *
cleared the gnome-related stuff out of the HOME-directory (rm -rf .gnome* .gconf* .ICE*)
But up to now the problem persists and I can't log in. |

This happened to me once and it was because I turned on the gnome system sounds without esound installed. I emerged esound and gnome started fine.
It also works if you change the sink and source selections in 'Gstreamer Preferences' to something other than Enlightenment Sound Daemon. |

esound was already emerged, gstreamer not. So i re-emerged esound and emerged gstreamer. Emerging went fine so far...
But gnome still doesn't start... Are there any config files I could edit? |
