I'm new to using procmail, so I wouldn't be surpised if I screwed something.
I have been creating recipes in .procmailrc, and they all have worked but I'm getting strange behaviour for one of the recipes

The problem lies in the gentoo-dev section. The mail headed for gentoo-desktop keeps getting delivered to gentoo-dev instead. Am I missing something here? I haven't tried switching the two recipies around, but I don't understand why I would even need to try that. Any ideas?

Does the gentoo-desktop subject contain the phrase gentoo-dev? I'd turn on verbose procmail logging and then sift through the log file. It will tell you what it did and what it didn't match on. _________________ The free market gave me gonorrhea. |

I've checked the full header, and gentoo-dev doesn't appear anywhere in there, unless I missed it. I added VERBOSE=on to my .procmailrc file, but I can't seem to located the log file. The procmail site says it should be .procmail/log, though I don't see it. I'll keep looking.

Thanks bro, the site I was reading didn't mention log files are not created by default. I have verbose logging setup now, so next time an email shoots threw there I will review the output and see if I can find the problem.

I don't understand why the gentoo-desktop mail is going to the gentoo-dev folder. Why is the gentoo-dev recipe picking this up?

Ok, just an update.
I removed the gentoo-dev entry in .procmailrc. By doing this, email to gentoo-desktop finally went to the correct folder, and gentoo-dev mail went to my default inbox. So I completely removed the gentoo-dev entry and remade it again, just in case vi added some strange character I wasn't accounting for. The problem still persist.
I guess I could put the gentoo-dev entry below the gentoo-desktop entry, but that would be a hack and I still don't understand what the problem is. If anyone has any ideas, I would be grateful.

Hah figured it out. It's because it should read: "^Subject:.*gentoo-dev.*" not "^Subject:.*gentoo-dev*". See the * means zero or more of the preceding character so in effect you're asking it to match "^Subject:.*gentoo-de" plus zero or more v's. Thus the extra preceding dot is needed for the last asterisk. _________________ The free market gave me gonorrhea. |
