hi,
i'm having problems with my mouse (logitech ps/2), when i start X, i can only move my mouse to left-up, if i move it in any other direction it jumps to the lowerleft and opens the popupmenu, also none of the buttons do what they're supposed to do.
cat /dev/psaux gives me output when i move/click the mouse
i've tried several different settings for protocol (and for device) in xf86config
and i've recompiled the kernel quite a lot
and although there seem to be a lot of people with similar problems, i didn't find a solution on the forums
(and i haven't emerged gpm)
anyone who can help or at least explain what's going wrong? (maybe ps/2 is broken in kernel2.4.19r10 and up?) i haven't tried it with lower kernels...
thanks in advance,
Bernard

Have you tried "IMPS/2" as the mouse protocol?
Are you using gpm? _________________ "I'm just very selective about the reality I choose to accept." -- Calvin |

yeah, i've tried IMPS/2, imps/2 and ImPS/2 (in case it's case-sensitive), neither of them worked
and i don't use gpm |

i've been recompiling the kernel some more, i now built in usb support, hid support, and usbmouse support (like i read somewhere) (although it IS a ps/2 mouse); and now, no matter which protocol or device i use, the cursor won't move
(cat /dev/psaux en cat /dev/mouse still give me output)
i'm really, really getting confused now... |

ignore the part about the mouse not moving, i was keeping a backup of XF86Config in my /root dir, after reading the XF86Config man, i realised xfree used that one for its config instead of the /etc/X11 one (i'm still loging in as root user), so after deleteting the faulty one in my /root and experimenting again with device and protocol:
it still jumps to the left bottomcorner and pops up the menu |

IT WORKS !!!!
don't ask me why, but suddenly it's working (the last thing i changed was setting protocol to "Auto", although i'm sure i've already tried that three times...)
for everybody reading this whith similar problems: read the docs concerning input devices for which protocols you can use in your xfree version and mind that these are case-sensitive !!! |
